As a small business it isn't always easy to hire the right people.
I Always advise to stop looking for people with diploma's and no work experience. If you’re a small or medium business that wants to prosper you must start looking for people with experience and creativity and not only administration skills.

First of all don't get me wrong I tBut In today's business world school is not everything you need to succeed it has looked open and seen as a tool for a person to do well and expand his way of thinking at work, a tool is sometimes not enough that's why you need more than school smarts. Yes the theory lessons graduates learn are important but my perspective is that a small business should be looking for employees that have already worked for some time and watching for x-factors that can make your business thrive under difficult circumstances is important as much as having someone with an M.A or M.B.A on your payroll. Look at the biggest company's today and you will find that finding talent is as much important then finding a well learned fresh out of school student.
hink going in a M.B.A
program in a good school can lift you higher in any direction you choose to go
in your future career.
Let me share my personal experience with people I have
worked with and people who worked under my supervision. The first thing I found
out is that there are some people with M.B.A's that are clueless and have no
idea how a retail business, office or even a storage room for equipment looks
like.
Some people I know with an M.B.A are very brilliant. What
usually makes someone a good catch for your Business is to look to
see if they know what they are talking about.
The second thing that was interesting is the fact that I
found people with army experience that managed soldiers under their command
where very at ease when walking in to a management position. Yes they were not
born business people in heart but when you can manage people that work for free
(IDF Soldiers Serve For 90$ A Month On A Full Time Job For Example) you can
easily manage people who want to work for money and career opportunities.
I can't say I would want a former senior officer as a CEO
but I can say that in middle management low rank officers can prosper in the
business world.
The third thing that I found interesting is that people who
hire are not looking enough for workers with entrepreneurial skills, that’s a
shame because I know that a small or medium business can't survive with
initiatives and innovation.
I see people that have small business hire the wrong people
all the time. Small businesses in Israel have trouble finding good help because
someone told them that without a degree there worker isn't worth much.
People are looking for workers that went to a good school
rather then worked at a good job. They are not looking to bring in talented workers with loads of experience and with the passion to learn but no degree in
their hands. That's a shame because I believe that if you can build a business
advantage on the basics of mixing your workforce with theory and practical
working people together as a team you are bound to get better results than
favoring a specific type of employee.
I believe in what I say, just look at my profile to
understand how I build myself to have a bit of both worlds.
Experience, Being initiative and Learning at a good school
come together.
I will finish my undergraduate degree in fall of 2012 at
the age of 23 (I am the youngest in my class), I opened my own business I
worked in three completely different jobs in the last 7 years while the
business was running and I have 3 years in the army behind me as commander, I
have taken courses and I have tried more than once to start more business while
having a steady work in-between.
I study with a special group of people that are between the
ages of 35 and 50. They have all been promoted in the biggest business firms in
Israel without even having a B.A under their belt. What does that say? That
they are talented and they are smart enough to know that business school is a
great tool that sometimes you should get after you get some work experience and
not before.
For conclusion, I love business school and I hope to study
in a top business school in the near future, but as a small business owner I
need more than good grade employees and if your small business owner looking to
beat the competitors that look just like you, make your variant workforce the
winning factor to improve your business.
